Grays is a centre for culture in Thurrock with the theatre, museum, and events throughout the year and has a rich history and heritage.

But how can we do more to improve its cultural offer and to present its history and heritage, and give people a reason to visit the town centre?

Tell us what you think, here’s a few suggestions to start;

  • Evening economy
  • More places to eat and drink
  • Purpose designed indoor and outdoor performance and events spaces

  1. We need a new theatre which is large enough to make enough money for well known acts, bands etc to appear there.. We should also create a space at Grays beach or Grays Riverside which would allow pop up bars, restaurants, art exhibitions, meetings whatever in the summertime. The river is glorious at Grays but we fail to take advantage of the view.

    1. I couldn’t agree more. Investing in theatre/performance space could encourage ‘out of town’ tryouts for big London shows, plus encourage well known acts to perform in Grays.

  2. Totally agree with Mick Hall the river is a perfect USP it should be used more, I live off argent street and enjoy walking near the river, so much more could be done, riverside chip shop, ice cream etc make it the place to go if you can’t be bothered with busy Southend, when a nice little spot in Grays would do.

  3. River front bars and restaurants would be lovely. The riverside walkway needs a good tidy up and maybe extending . Would be great to see lovely independent cafes and modern eateries along the high street too. The theatre needs a face lift but hope you can retain a lot of history. Please check out the Idea store (it’s a modern style of library) popular in some of the London boroughs – its a great place for children to work together on school work after school or for companies to hire for workshop, seminars, local groups to run meet ups etc. Looking forward to seeing the changes.
